APES CIC Re-homing Policy

The following policies help us ensure that every animal finds the perfect home where they can live a happy, healthy life. Our re-homing process is designed to match pets and their future owners as perfectly as possible.

•   The majority of the animals in our care have been rescued by animal control officers. Strays are transferred to us by the local authority involved. For stray animals, we keep them for at least seven days to give their owners a fair chance to reclaim them. The Association of Protecting Exotic Species CIC will not import animals from other countries for re-homing in England and Wales.
•   Before adoption, every animal undergoes a clinical examination by a qualified member of our animal care team.
•   Animals can only be re-homed when proof is provided that the adopter is over 18 years old.
•   We take reasonable steps to ensure that no animal is re-homed without first confirming that they will enjoy a good quality of life. Once we find a perfect match, one of our trained volunteers will conduct a home visit to ensure that potential adopters have carefully considered the responsibilities of pet ownership.
•   Potential owners must choose an animal in person. No animal will be re-homed over the internet, by mail-order, or by telephone. In addition, animals are never sold at markets or given away as prizes.
•   If potential adopters live in rented or tied accommodation, they must obtain permission from their landlord to keep an animal.
•   No animal may be re-homed if doing so would be illegal or pose undue risks to humans or other animals. We do not re-home animals to adopters who are likely to use them for hunting live animals.
•   We always provide copies of the veterinary and behavioral history of the animal during their time in our care, along with post-adoption support to help them settle into their new home.
•   No Association of Protecting Exotic Species CIC animal should be kept in a school— the Association of Protecting Exotic Species CIC strongly discourages keeping animals in schools. In addition, no animal may be adopted for use in experiments that require a Home Office license.
•   No animal from the Association of Protecting Exotic Species CIC will be re-homed to countries that lack adequate animal welfare legislation or require journeys that could compromise their welfare.
